Summer Camp – Monday Day

A little bird tells us that weather back home is a bit awful. Just in case you think we’re missing out you’ll be pleased to know I have to say that we have never experienced rain like this at camp before. The Scouts at the top of the hill have nice dry tents – the leaders’ tent – now nicknamed the swamp appears to be the mouth of or new water feature.
Our plan today was to have an adventure trek up to Skiddaw – given the weather we’ve decided to postpone and work on the pioneer’s badge. Each Scout has learned how to do an eye splice and back splice and spent the rest of the morning making survival bracelets from paracord. Richard is officially the fastest at making them. Maybe we should call him Super Quick Rick!

After a Dutch lunch of Edam sandwiches the rain stopped and the weather is starting to improve. Our barometer has lifted from 990 to 1000 so things are definitely looking up.
We took the opportunity to made chariots and have a race someone suggested setting them on fire but we decided to save them for the camp Olympics later in the week.
The rest of the afternoon was spent collecting firewood and learning how to use knives, axes and saws safely. The Scouts also learned how to light fires with wet wood – a valuable skill with our current weather.
