Today once again saw us waking up to rain. The rain was short lived and didn’t effect our morning activities making a raft and a giant crossbow. In the afternoon we went to Sandale climbing everyone had a great time and the views from the top were fantastic. After tea we built a shelter and fire. The scouts slept the night in the shelter and stayed dry and warm despite torrential rainfall at 4:30 in the morning.

Posting again because the other one hasn’t worked :( Monday was our hike to Grisedale Pike. Despite driving rain on the way we were treated to glorious sunshine at the summit and stunning views. Then back to site for a swim in the lake and a game of tethered football.

Arrived safely at the campsite in Bassenthwaite. Weather’s been a bit of a mixed bag lovely and sunny this afternoon after a rainy journey over. Put all of or our tents up and have thoroughly moved in. Spent the evening in the lake with our water pistols squirting each other and trying to recreate the muddy face picture that’s on the top of our website with mud from the bottom of the lake. Kiaran and Zac took the prize for muddiest faces but we’ll let you judge the winner when we upload our proper pictures to the gallery when we get back.

Tonight we lit fires and cooked a variety of things on them ranging from hot chocolate biscuits to sausages wrapped in cabbage leaves and twists.

Tonight we planted hanging baskets in the troop. Having bought some bedding plants from the wholesale fruit and veg Market and some baskets from Poundstretcher the Scouts enjoyed planting them out. We selected from petunias, pansys, bizzie lizzies, lobelia and geranium.
The activity followed on from the Explorer units activity where they planted planters. Even the front garden at hq got a make over. Scouts and Explorers have taken the plants home to look after and the Scout with the best planter/ basket at the end of the month wins a prize. The planters and baskets will be sold to raise money for the group.

In preparation for the McLaren competition we practiced putting up tents and cooking food on a hike stove. It was amazing that we were able to cook two courses in the same pan by putting one in a plastic boiling bag.
